#DON’T SHOP, ADOPT

Every year all over the world, particularly on Christmas time, many animals are sold, mostly cats and dogs. Often this animals are abandoned few months later, because they were not a new family member, but just a Christmas gift.

Cats and dogs are lifetime companions, we have with them a personal relationship based on knowledge, respect and enjoying each others company. This relationship is build with patience and love, it can not be purchased at the petshop.

Would you choose a friend from a catalogue like a pair of shoes? Probably not. Shoes are just an object, we buy them and we can think about shoes in terms of beauty or fashion, while a friend is a living being with its personality and feelings.

We ear too often people talking about purchasing an animal insted of adopting it.

WHY PURCHASING A DOG OR A CAT IS WRONG?

  1. BECAUSE SHELTERS ARE FULL OF ANIMALS

Because the number of unwanted animals borned abandoned and destroyed is just
too staggering. 6 to 8 million dogs and cats, 900 every hour, 10.000 every day in shelters only in the United States, are currently put down because there are not enough homes for them.

Animals in shelters are wasting their life in cages, without the possibility of a real life. They are condamned with no guilt. For each animal purchased in a shop, another one in a shelter is condamned.

  1. TO CONTRAST ILLEGAL PUPPY TRADE

Because responsible breeders are very rare, many animals raised for their breed are born in terrible conditions, separated from their mothers too early and confined in tiny cages and transported for long distances, this situations increase their risk to contract diseases and illness. The mothers are exploited till death for reproduction and many puppies arrive death to the final destination. This disturbed and mistreaten puppies are sold for very high prices in different countries.

Often buying a pure breed puppy is a way to support animal sufference and exploitation and is an indirect way to condamn animals in shelters to a slow death.

You can fight this with a simple and revolutionary action: adopt!

  1. ANIMALS ARE NOT OBJECT TO BE SOLD, BUT LIVING BEINGS

As you don’t choose your friends for their hair color or their weight, you shouldn’t as well choose an animal for these reasons. Each cross-breed animals is unique and has his own features and needs. Find your soulmate in a shelter, animals can not be purchased. They are lifetime companions, not fancy objects to be shown.

  1. SHELTERS ARE NOT A SOLUTION FOR ANIMAL OVERPOPULATION

Many no kill-shelters are actually slow kill-shelters. Spaying and neuter is the answer to save so many stray and abandoned animals. It is cheaper then feeding animals and open new shelters. And it doesn’t not only save money it saves lives, too.

Each time you buy or breed an animal, another one is dying in the she
lter. Even if you find homes for your puppies, you are stealing home away from puppies which are already born and waiting in shelters for homes. Giving birth to new puppies means condamn to death thousands of animals every year, it is irresponsible. Whenever they come to eat stray female cats and dogs have to fight off every male animal from many miles around and they almost never succeed. Being always pregnant is really tiring and dangerous for females. Spay/neuter your animal in accordance with your vet indications.
