By volunteering with OIPA Cameroon , you will make a major contribution to the welfare of both domestic and wild animals and the environment in Cameroon . On a personal level, you will have the unique opportunity to work alongside some incredible animals and gain the satisfaction that comes from helping to make a positive impact on their lives (and yours!). Working with the local community and the inspiring people who run OIPA is an opportunity of a lifetime!
No previous experience is required but you will need to be willing and enthusiastic. A strong interest in conservation and wildlife, animal welfare and environment protection is recommended. You will need to be physically fit, able to tolerate high temperatures and humidity, work well within a team and be adaptable to living and working in a group.
What are Volunteer duties?
As a volunteer you will spend minimum of 5 hours daily working for animals both stray/owned, domestic/wild and environment protection. In addition, you will also enjoy the opportunity to visit local communities in Cameroon and meeting people in remote areas with different culture and traditions.
Your first day with OIPA will consist of an orientation session and full details of the locations where you are going to work. The orientation will cover both logistical information regarding how the organization is run and educational material detailing the fundamentals of animal welfare and environmental basics. You will be trained and supervised by the experienced animal keepers and vet technician in collaboration with the ministry of livestock fisheries and animal industries of Cameroon.
Each day is a little bit different at OIPA and Volunteer activities may include the following:
- Preparing and distributing Food to stray animals
- Catching and stray animals
- Gardening / Plantation /Nursery Maintenance & Development
- Teaching nursery, primary and secondary school on animal welfare, care and environment protection
- Meeting with hunters and discussing on alternative means of income
- Working with our mobile clinic to provide medical care to stray and some owned animals
- Working as a secretary at the OIPA secretariat
- Working with OIPA investigators to monitor and investigate cruelty and bust meat trafficking
Note: OIPA is not responsible for any expenses we only provide free accommodation.
Volunteer must be willing to work and stay in remote areas.

Monday to Friday
09.00 Hrs to 17.00 Hrs
Lunch break : 1300 Hrs
Saturdays and Sundays are free days for you to relax and explore.
