Political, bureaucratic and logistical issues make the entrance and delivery of humanitarian aid often a mission impossible in a country plagued by years of civil war.
Crossing the border with food and supplies, in particular for animals, is extremely difficult due to heavy police presence at checkpoints that stops every car, van or pickup for security screening.
Last week, supported by a brave volunteer who is always willing to help homeless animals on our behalf when he travels to Damascus and Aleppo, we bought dry food that he transported and he used to feed around 400 cats and 50 dogs, included puppies, in four different locations in Damascus and in poor areas of the countryside.
Feeding activity took place in Damascus on Valentine’s Day then the journey continued towards the city of Aleppo where strays showed up looking for food after hiding for two days from the heavy rain.
In this part of the world, homeless animals are ignored and neglected. Strays are invisible who struggle to find food necessary to easy their hunger and survive.
