OIPA sponsors a cat vaccination campaign at Tishk university

OIPA sponsors a cat vaccination campaign at Tishk university. Our member association KOARP – Kurdistan Organization for Animal Rights Protection was called to participate and support some educational and awareness activities during an event, a day dedicated to animals under the slogan “Animals have rights to live on this planet as humans have”, organized for the students at Tishk University.

Dr. Tameer participated to a panel discussion to talk about the situation and condition of stray animals in Iraq and Kurdistan region. Additionally, the president of the University gave a speech about the role of animals on this planet and how Islam effectively considers them in Koran. The speaking was followed by a presentation about toxoplasmosis and how this zoonotic disease can be transmitted from cats to humans. At the end of the lecture, students and speakers received a certificate of appreciation and participation.

During the afternoon, students were involved in following KOARP’s activities on field. OIPA International sponsored the ‘CatVax’ community project aimed at providing vaccination to around 20 street cats living inside the university camp. The campaign included deworming, eye and ear cleaning, nail clipping, external parasite spraying and vaccination (for a total amount of 700 €).
