While strolling in the small village of Marina di Savuto, Cosenza district, in Southern Italy, two tourists caught sight of a severely neglected dog. Immediately, the couple stopped trying to verify the conditions of the animal but he was so frightened that he did not want to get close. The dog was seriously ill: undernourished, limping, hairless, covered in scabs, fleas and ticks, but his eyes were desperately asking for help.

The couple could not ignore this struggling request and were determined to give him the alternative of a new life. They went for days to visit him, finally exhausted from hunger, thirst and illness, Thot ended up trusting them. At that point, those very special tourists contacted our volunteers, who rushed from the nearby city of Lamezia Terme to assist Thot. The young dog, 3 years old, was fed and took to a vet clinic for a general check.

Suffering from leishmaniasis, that luckily did not affect any organs, Thot has started a targeted pharmacological therapy. He is getting better little by little, but to support the entire healing process and investigate the cause of his lameness, OIPA’s volunteers appeal to your sensitivity!

Thanks to your help, Thot could start a new life!
