BALOO E BAGHEERA… WHAT’S LEFT OF TWO MAREMMA SHEEPDOGS
Completely hairless, suffering from a severe form of mange and with burns on their body. Abandoned in the hot sun, hungry and thirsty… BALOO AND BAGHEERA, rescued by OIPA volunteers in Teramo.
Two puppies only three months old were abandoned outside a monastery in the province of Teramo, central Italy, in the conditions that you can see: undernourished, thirsty and hairless. As soon as OIPA volunteers arrived on the site, they have found the two puppies feverish and almost sunburned.
They suffer from a severe type of sarcoptic mange, a highly contagious skin disease that causes intense itching. This makes them chew and scratch their skin constantly, leading to the loss of a large amount of hair.
For the time being, Baloo e Bagheera are in isolation hosted in the house of an OIPA volunteer. They are being treated with medicated baths and dips and oral medications, under continuous medical monitoring. It is going to be a lengthy course of therapy, after which OIPA volunteers will look for a special family that can help them forget their past suffering.
OIPA volunteers ask for a last help for Baloo and Bagheera to afford their medical treatments.
