A “school” for hunters aged 12 to 17 was opened in the Regional Center for Ecological and Naturalistic Creativity of Young Students in L’viv. A course that contradicts completely the educational norms established by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine. Rather than teaching ecological consciousness, respect for animals and preservation of the environment to the future generations, this programme exposes young students, who are in a very sensitive phase of their lives, to violence, cruelty and disrespect for animals and environment.
For example, one of the topic discussed in the course is going to be “How to make a stuffed bird” where children will acquire skills in processing and cooking birds. Additionally, children will be engaged in hunting dog breeding for 18 hours learning the basics of training hunting dogs. (read the programme)
OIPA signed the letter sent by the association Generation 4 Charitable Foundation appealing the Ministry of Education and Science to inspect and decide whether the existence of the group “Young Hunters” does contradict the moral and ethical norms of Ukrainian education.
The letter was addressed to: Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Education, Science and innovation; General Director of the Directorate of preschool, school, extracurricular and inclusive education; Expert Group on extracurricular and inclusive education to the head of the group’s experts.
It’s time to teach future generations to be more compassionate and respectful and not educate them teaching how to exploit, destroy and be cruel towards animals and the environment.
