The United Nations General Assembly established in 1972 the World Environment Day, celebrated annually on 5 June.

This Day is the UN’s principal vehicle for encouraging worldwide awareness and actions for the environment, in particular for promoting progress on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. With the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), over 150 countries participate to the celebration each year. Major corporations, NGOs, communities, governments, celebrities, and citizens. About tens of millions of people from across the world.

This year’s World Environment Day campaign focuses on land restoration, desertification and drought resilience under the slogan “Our land. Our future. We are #GenerationRestoration.” – We cannot turn back time, but we can grow forests, revive water sources, and bring back soils. We are the generation that can make peace with land.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will host the 2024 World Environment Day global celebrations.
