A couple of weeks ago, our representative in Montenegro heard some cries while walking in the countryside of Brezna. She saw some puppies from afar, but they immediately ran away in the bushes.

She rushed to the place to verify their condition and look for their mum, maybe roaming somewhere looking for food, but she only found a carton box with the 5 puppies inside. Some of them came out wagging their tails, some other were petrified, growling and barking. One of them tried to bite our volunteer for the fear when she tried to pick him up.

They were all hungry and extremely thirsty. They had never experienced the warmth of a human touch and had known only hardships and fear, making them understandably difficult to catch. However, OIPA Montenegro volunteers were determined to give them the love and care they deserved.

The rescue mission turned into a one-hour-long endeavour, while three of them were easy to catch, for the other two it took over an hour to succeed but it was all worth it, when they finally caught all of them, one by one.

Our representative loaded them in a transport cage and she drove home. Unfortunately, there was no place for puppies in local shelters and not available foster homes, so she decided to give them temporary shelter in her house. Now, they are safe and receiving much-needed nourishment. They have access to food, water and cuddles.

OIPA is very grateful to local association and shelter Nikšićko udruženje za zaštitu životinja, Ljubitelji zivotinja and FamilyVet clinic for providing immediate supplies of food and veterinary care. When organizations come together like this, so much can be achieved in helping these innocent souls.

Daisy, Luna, Ruby and boys Jasper and Milo will be soon adoptable, but for now we need your help to ensure them food, vet care and vaccinations.

OIPA Montenegro is also taking care of homeless dogs and cats, contributes to a sterilization program for stray and domestic cats and cooperates with a dog shelter in Niksic.
