Despite difficulties and complications, the last year was very challenging for our OIPA’s Member League Animal Rescue Cambodia that finished 2020 with an impactful month around animal rescue and welfare.
Only in December, the association spayed/neutered more than 90 cats and dogs, preventing the pain and suffering of thousands of unwanted kittens and puppies. Did you know that in only 6 years, 1 female cat and her mate can produce 11,000 kittens and more? Likewise, 1 female dog and her mate can produce 2,000 puppies and more. Therefore neutering/spaying is the only ethical and sustainable way to control the overpopulation among street animals!
The same month, almost 200 animals have been vaccinated against rabies and other deadly diseases. You may not believe it, but in Cambodia still today around 800 people die every year from rabies!
Moreover, 20 animals were rehomed (adopted/foster home) only in the last 4 weeks of 2020.
As it happened to Mama Chan a sweet female cat found blind on the streets of Phnom Penh. Animal Rescue Cambodia took her in, as the rough street life is normally a death sentence for blind animals in particular. At the same time, four orphan kittens arrived at the center. Mama Chan immediately adopted them. Without her, the kittens would likely not have made it. Now Mama Chan got adopted into a loving forever home.
As part of the Covid-19 feeding program to relieve the burden on local communities, our Member League provided 135kg of food, reaching 674 cats and 215 dogs at 12 Buddhist pagodas in December 2020.
With your help we’ll be able to support tangibly the activities of our all our Member Leagues
