Flood emergency response for animals in Galati. Torrential rains in Central and Eastern Europe have unleashed devastating flash floods, tragically resulting in the deaths of at least four people in Romania. The hardest-hit area was concentrated in Galati region, with 5,000 households severely impacted by the rising waters.

While the dog shelter run by our member association Sava’s Safe Haven – located just a few kilometres away from the affected area, was spared the worst of the flooding, countless people and animals have been badly affected and are suffering in the aftermath of the disaster.

Sava’s Safe Haven, OIPA’s member association, is on the front lines providing relief and assistance to families with pets and strays. With the assistance of Romanian Police, Animal Protection Office, Sava’s team began to reach some villages during the weekend. Unfortunately, a new flood alert has been issued, and Galati continues to be under a high-level emergency warning.

In constant contact with local authorities and police, Sava’s team is closely monitoring the weather situation and awaiting the opportunity to provide new aid. Once roads will be again safe, they will continue to reach families and animals in need in affected villages, providing essential supplies, such as food and medicines, and emotional support.

In this critical moment, we must come together and support Sava’s important mission.

OIPA will help them provide life-saving resources to animals affected by floods. We cannot allow these animals to suffer alone.
