A small-sized dog suddenly appeared near a gas station, earning the name Q8, in a serious state of neglect. He had skin lesions, a hole in his palate, his entire mouth in bad condition, a half-closed eye and a swollen penis. Reported by some residents to OIPA volunteers, in the municipality of Campofelice di Roccella, in the province of Palermo, South of Italy, he was immediately rescued and taken to a vet clinic where doctors painted a very dire clinical picture.

The analysis revealed not only a high titre of leishmaniasis, but the doggie also had to undergo a mouth and dental cleaning, as well as the extraction of some teeth. Additionally, several surgical operations were required to fix his penis problem.

His hospital stay will be lengthy and once Q8 recovers he will need to undergo cosmetic surgery to repair the congenital hole in his palate and to open his eye.

Italian volunteers have launched a fundraiser to cover all the medical expenses necessary to help Q8, a small dog of about 4 years old who was abandoned in a state of great suffering.
