DOG STERILIZATION CAMPAIGN IN BRANISTEA, ROMANIA

DOG STERILIZATION CAMPAIGN IN BRANISTEA, ROMANIA

Following the successful cooperation with Sava’s Safe HavenOIPA’s member association in Romania – in aid of war-affected animals in Ukraine and in launching the first school education initiative on animal welfare in Tulcea, this spring we are going again to join forces for a dog sterilization campaign in Branistea.

Spaying and neutering is not only a humane method to manage and control stray dog overpopulation decreasing the number of street animals in communities and avoiding the birth of new litters but also contributes to reduce pet abandonment and shelter overcrowding, and prevents physical and psychological suffering of homeless animals. Sterilization has a positive impact on the well-being and safety of animals, for example reducing the risk of certain tumours, including those of mammary glands, ovaries, uterus and testicular; and a positive effect on the well-being and safety of local communities.

While Sava’s Safe Haven has been already working with authorities and police to educate door by door pet owners in rural area about the importance of spaying and neutering their animals and has started to microchip and register all owned dogs; OIPA International will sponsor a two days sterilization campaign in April.

On April 13th and 14th, Sava’s will get a mobile vet clinic in Branistea’s rural area where a first group of strays and dogs with owners will be spayed and neutered for free thanks to our support.

About 500 dogs need to be sterilized in Branistea. After this first group of needy four paws, we hope to soon support Sava’s organize a second campaign. Our common goal is to guarantee that all these dogs will get their spay surgery.
