Following the call for help of concerned citizens, OIPA animal control officers in Ancona, a city in Central Italy, rushed to verify the condition of a dog reported being abandoned inside a closed farm.

The livestock facility was shut down last autumn after severe floods hit the area and forced the owner to close the activity. Shamefully, the dog he used to have as a livestock guardian was left inside because no longer needed.  Abandoned, forgotten, neglected, seriously ill and sentenced to die alone and in pain.

Despite the worst-case scenario was expecting the dog, the timely intervention of OIPA animal control officers offered Iside a chance to survive. The owner was reported for animal abuse according to articles 544-ter and 727, par.2, of the Italian penal law.

This sweet 6-year old female dog was found in pitiful condition: undernourished, at least 10kg underweight, with hair loss due to a flea allergy dermatitis and a large tumour that was removed a few days ago. Iside is slowly recovering from the surgery though she will have to go through a long period of supportive treatment.

However, being a stage 3 cancer a CT scan is necessary to exclude the presence of metastasis and, in the event she does not have any, volunteers will discuss with veterinarians the best treatment options to guarantee her a good quality of life for the remaining time.

❤ Help us offer Iside a chance for life: a life made of love and care ❤
