It’s always a good day when we can share good news, in particular when we see that even governmental representatives support our fights for animal rights. Today, we would like to thank the Honourable Mark Pearson of the Australian Animal Justice Party for leading the fight for greyhounds Down Under. Last week, he spoke before the NSW Parliament then he issued a letter (LETTER-FOR-THE-GREYHOUNDS-FROM-HONOURABLE-MARK-PEARSON_2021) to publicly declare his support for the US Greyhound Protection Act noting that this historic legislation will not only stop all dog racing in the United States, but it will also prohibit Americans from betting on races in his country and worldwide.
He declared: “Thanks to the brilliant work of organisations like GREY2K USA and the Coalition for the Protection of Greyhounds greyhound racing is on its way out in both America and Australia. For the thousands of abused dogs trapped in the industry, this day can’t come soon enough. Yesterday in Parliament I spoke about the USA’s Greyhound Protection Act. I’m now gearing up to personally email all 400+ members of US congress to urge them to back the ban on greyhound racing”.
Mr. Pearson’s momentous speech was preceded by an initial letter from animal protection groups in 14 countries to all members of the US Congress and as OIPA International we had the honour to lead the coalition supporting the H.R. 3355.
As our member league GREY2K USA states: “It is so important for us all to work together to end dog racing wherever it occurs. This is the only way to realize change!”
