On 7 October, over 10,000 Italian activists and animal lovers protested against Italian authorities on the streets of Milano. An unprecendent stream of people gathered togheter to express indignation for the recent episode which had seen the killing of 9 pigs in a sanctuary.
After the outbreak of African suine Flu in the Lombardy region that had caused the killing of 34,000 pigs in intensive farms, authorities decided on 20 Semptember to break through the gates of sanctuary Progetto Cuori Liberi in Sairano (Pavia) and killed nine rescued pigs who had not been infected. Pigs who had found safety and freedom from a food system that does not give animals a shed of dignity and respect as sentient beings had been mercilessly killed with no reason.
During the killing operation, some activists who had stayed in front of the sanctuary for days trying to protect these animals had been also badly beaten.
If farmed animals have to be persecuted even in places created specifically to give them peace and freedom, well…something in this world is wrong!!
